Meet Janet, of Janet Bark Photography
Welcome to Member Spotlight with Janet Bark of Janet Bark Photography.
When you meet Janet Bark, you quickly understand why she’s been such a pillar of the Professional Photographers of San Diego County. Kind, creative, and endlessly encouraging, Janet has guided countless photographers through their own artistic journeys—both behind the camera and within the PPSDC community.
A Certified Professional Photographer with more than two decades of experience, Janet built her San Diego portrait business on a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves to have an image they love—one that captures who they truly are at their very best. From headshots and high school seniors to family portraits and personal branding, she helps clients feel confident and comfortable, crafting photographs that reflect authenticity and connection.
As a Past President of PPSDC, during her term as PPSDC President, Janet led with vision and heart, fostering an environment where photographers could grow, learn, and support one another. She championed continuing education, professional development, and the importance of community—values that still shape PPSDC today.
Her leadership extended beyond the boardroom. Janet’s creative eye and dedication to excellence earned her multiple honors, including Senior Portrait Photographer of the Year (2016–2019) and Photographer of the Year (2019). She continues to mentor photographers and remain active in workshops and competitions, modeling the same spirit of lifelong learning she inspires in others.
While she photographs families, generations and children, she has a special place in her heart for High School Seniors, which as you can see, she's quite good at winning Best In Seniors four years in a row. These days you can find her photographing for a variety of community magazines and corporate headshots, which puts her all over San Diego County, not just her Poway Studio.
When she’s not photographing or volunteering, Janet enjoys life in Poway with her husband, their three children (who are now all gone off to college), and their Shih Tzu, Wolfgang. She loves quiet evenings with a good book, time with family, and a well-earned glass of wine after a full creative day.
PPSDC celebrates Janet not only for her artistic talent but for her generous leadership and the steady influence she’s had on the photographic community of San Diego County. Her legacy reminds us that great photography—and great organizations—are both built on vision, care, and connection.
